Thiruppavalavannam temple is one among the 108 divyadesams. It is categorised under Thondai naadu divyadesams. This divyadesam is a combination of two temples, Sri Pachai vannar and Sri Pavala vannar, and the only one divyadesam, where Lord Vishnu is praised by his colour. A few metres away is Pachai Vanna Perumal temple. Pachaivannar temple is not a divyadesam, but both these temples are considered as a single divyadesam and worshipped together. So I have written about both the temples in this post.

Once Lord Brahma conducted a yagna without His consort Saraswathi. So, Goddess Saraswathi got angry and sent asuras to obstruct the yagam. Lord Brahma prayed to Lord Vishnu to protect the yagna. Vishnu battled with the asuras and protected the yagna and was with blood of asuras all over the body, seen as coral in colour and hence the name, Pavalavanna perumal, the Coral coloured Lord.
