Sthala purana (About the temple) - Virochana, King of Vidharba had no children. He prayed Kailasanathar of Kailasanatha temple in Kanchi. By the grace of Lord Shiva the Dwarapalakas of Vishnu were born as sons to him. They were named Pallavan and Villavan and they were staunch Vishnu Bhakthas. They conducted Ashwametha yagna. Vishnu appeared before them and gave darshan as Sri Vaikunta Nathan.
