The presiding deity(moolavar) 'Sri Deepaprakasa Perumal also known as 'Vilakkoli Perumal' gives darshan in standing posture, Nindra Thirukkolam, facing west. Saraswathi disrupted Brahma's yagna in many ways. She sent demons to disturb the Yagna and the demons darkened the whole world. Lord Vishnu appeared as a bright light and removed the darkness. Hence the name 'Deepa Prakasar' and 'Vilakkoli Perumal'. HE also killed the demons and protected Brahma's yagna.
There are separate sannidhis for Maragathavalli Thayar, the consort of Lord Deepa Prakasar,  Lakshmi Hayagreeva,  Andal, Lord Hayagreeva and Azhwars and Acharyas.
'Thiruthanka' also called as 'Thoopul' is the avathara sthalam (birth place) of Swami Vedanta Desika, a Vaishnavite scholar. He has a separate shrine in this temple along with his aradhana deity Lord Lakshmi Hayagreeva. Swami Desikan is seen in Gnana Mudhra.
